After our recent Bunny on Acid & NDV bass-related releases, we’re taking a small turn back to the beats. We’re happy to welcome into the Botanika roster the talented Michael Cohen, with his debut solo release (and our 12th), consisting of two slices of infectious instrumental hip-hop.
Cohen was selected for the 2008 Red Bull Music Academy, where he bonded and collaborated with fellow beat travellers Fatima, Dorian Concept, Teebs and others. His beats have already been approved by Benji B, Karizma and Jazzy Jeff, who even mashed-up one of Cohen’s beats with an MOP acappella when playing in Tel-Aviv.
Before embarking on his international conquest, Cohen had already established himself as half of Cohen@Mushon, a local old school throwback hip hop outfit, where he also waxes lyrical on his smooth productions, getting high praise as the Israeli equivalent of ATCQ and the Beastie Boys.
His debut release on Botanika – “Reverse Psychology” – is actually the first time he lets his productions shine on their own, effortlessly blending the old school/true-school Hip Hop swagger of his upbringing with the present times feel of the worldwide beats movement. “Reverse Psychology” is backed with “On the Scene”, an equally beautiful but slightly more laidback affair. Check ‘em.
